A whisker might as well be the universal symbol of happiness, just ask any pet parent you meet.  Wherever there are whiskers, rest assured there are memories to be made and good times to be had.  Whether you adopt a dog or a cat, do not be afraid to get a whisker or two in the face.  It normally means a kiss for you and a smile to go with it.  For whiskers do not just tickle your face, they also warm your heart.

This feline Friend will fill your heart with so much love; he just had to be named Mr. Whiskers.  He is such a sweet, stately gentleman!  So of course you will find him always wearing his tux.   Mr. Whiskers has a very laid-back personality, and wants nothing more in the world than to snuggle and feel loved.  He is extremely affectionate and would be happiest in a quiet home where he can soak up all the attention!  He gets along with the other cats in his room well, and is very easy-going.  Bring home the best whiskers you can today!

To adopt Mr. Whiskers, contact One of a Kind Pets in Akron at 330-865-6200, email ooak@oneofakindpets.com, or visit www.oneofakindpets.com.

Reduce your chances at being a victim of crime this summer.

Reduce your chances at being a victim of crime this summer.

As you plan your outdoor activities and family vacations, keep being safe at the forefront of your mind.

Here are several tips from the SHPD for a safe and fun summer.

  • When planning a trip, use light timers and notify your local police department of your vacation dates. Ask a neighbor to grab your mail and newspapers.
  • Use motion detectors and/or dusk-to-dawn lighting to keep the outside illuminated.
  • Inspect all door and window locks, double-hung, casement and sliding windows.
  • Lock all first floor doors and windows before bed.
  • Trim shrubbery that obsures doors and windows.  This makes it more difficult for an intruder to gain entry.
  • Make sure your address is clearly visible from the street for emergency purposes.
  • Close and lock the garage door when you are not nearby.
  • License your bicycle through the police department and lock up when unattended.
  • Lock your car even while in the garage; keep electronics and valuables out of view.
  • Be aware of your surroundings when you bike, walk, or jog.  Stay on well-lit paths, tell someone where you are going, and if possible, carry a cell phone.
  • Notify the police department when there is a street light out.
  • Install an alarm system, if possible.
